Veterans History

Veterans History Project
T he Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. This is a remarkable site, with a wealth of primary sources from World War I to the present. As always when dealing with war and its consequences, you will want to make judgments about what your students are prepared to deal with. There is a section of the site devoted to helping teachers and students take oral histories of veterans in their community.

Military.Com
This is not specifically a history site, but it includes a lot of history about veterans, including a short history of each of military holidays, such as Veterans Day andMemorial Day. The site has a lot of videos on a variety of subjects.

National Museum of American Jewish Military History
This site is devoted to the history of Jewish Americans in the U. S. military. Among the many resources on the site is a listing of Jewish Americans who received the Medal of Honor, beginning in the Civil War, and a collection of videos of G.Is talking about liberating the German camps.
