S.T. Toney and Dr. Friday

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt instituted a number of programs to help Americans during the Depression. African Americans received some of this aid, though there was still significant discrimination. Even fewer African Americans were able to get positions with the government. One who did was a man named S.T. Toney (left). Toney was a County Agricultural Agent in Seguin, Texas. He also worked with Dr. Clarence B. Friday (right) to set up first aid classes for African Americans. People met at the courthouse for classes.
